بريطانيا رفضت استخدام واشنطن قاعدة دييغو غارسيا لضرب إيران وفق التايمز

ذكرت صحيفة “التايمز” الجمعة، أن بريطانيا لم تسمح للولايات المتحدة الأمريكية باستخدام كل من قاعدة دييغو غارسيا في المحيط الهندي وقاعدة سلاح الجو الملكي بمدينة فيرفورد لشن هجوم محتمل على إيران.
وقالت في تقرير إن رئيس الوزراء كير ستارمر رفض طلب الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترامب، استخدام القواعد البريطانية لشن هجوم على إيران، معتبرا أن مثل هذا الإجراء سيكون مخالفا للقانون الدولي.
وأوضحت الصحيفة البريطانية أن ترامب وضع خططا لاستخدام القاعدة بجزيرة دييغو غارسيا التي تستخدم بشكل مشترك مع بريطانيا وكذلك قاعدة فيرفورد، خلال الهجوم المحتمل على إيران، لكنه انتقد بريطانيا عقب رفض ستارمر.
ولفت التقرير إلى أن ترامب تحدث بتدوينة على منصة “تروث سوشيال” في 18 فبراير/ شباط، عن أن مسألة نقل أرخبيل تشاغوس الذي يضم جزيرة دييغو غارسيا إلى دولة موريشيوس تكمن في صلب الخلاف.
والأربعاء، قال ترامب إنه في حال قررت إيران عدم إبرام اتفاق، فقد تضطر واشنطن لاستخدام القاعدة العسكرية الموجودة في دييغو غارسيا ومطار فيرفورد في بريطانيا من أجل “صد هجوم محتمل من نظام شديد الخطورة”.
وسبق أن ناقش الجانبان قضية قاعدة دييغو غارسيا الواقعة في أرخبيل تشاغوس التي تخطط بريطانيا لإعادتها إلى موريشيوس، وتُستخدم بشكل مشترك مع الولايات المتحدة.
وجمهورية موريشيوس هي جزيرة بالمحيط الهندي، لا ترتبط بحدود برية مع أي دولة أخرى، وأقرب جيرانها هي مدغشقر وجزر القمر وسيشل وجزر رينيون الفرنسية.
يشار إلى أن بريطانيا قامت بالعام 1965 بفصل جزيرة دييغو غارسيا عن بقية الأرخبيل، وقدمتها للولايات المتحدة الأمريكية التي أقامت عليها قاعدة عسكرية مشتركة.
وأبعدت بريطانيا حوالى ألفين من سكان الجزيرة لإقامة القاعدة التي استخدمتها واشنطن في عملياتها العسكرية بأفغانستان والعراق.
وفي 2019 اعتمدت الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة، وبأغلبية ساحقة، قرارًا يطالب بريطانيا بإنهاء إدارتها لجزر شاغوس، في المحيط الهندي، وتسليمها لموريشيوس.
وفي مايو/ أيار 2025 وقّعت موريشيوس وبريطانيا اتفاق نقل الجزر، ونُظّم استخدام قاعدة دييغو غارسيا من قبل بريطانيا بعقد إيجار لمدة 99 عاما.
وبموجب الاتفاق، مُنحت بريطانيا حق تمديد استخدام القاعدة لمدة 40 عاما إضافية بعد انتهاء فترة الـ99 عاما.
ولا يزال الاتفاق غير نافذ، لعدم استكمال إجراءات المصادقة عليه في برلماني البلدين.
وكان ترامب انتقد الاتفاق، وعلق عليه قائلا: حليفتنا في الناتو، بريطانيا، تخطط بلا أي مبرر لمنح جزيرة دييغو غارسيا – ذات الأهمية الحيوية للولايات المتحدة – إلى موريشيوس”.
ووصف ترامب الخطوة بـ”الضعف”، مضيفا أن الصين وروسيا تراقبان هذا التطور.
واعتبر أن “تخلي بريطانيا عن أرض بالغة الأهمية يُعد حماقة كبرى، وحلقة أخرى في سلسلة طويلة من المبررات المتعلقة بالأمن القومي التي تفسر سبب ضرورة الاستحواذ على غرينلاند”.
والخميس، أعلن ترامب أن مسار العملية المتعلقة بإيران سيتضح خلال 10 أيام، مضيفا: “ينبغي التوصل إلى اتفاق مثمر مع إيران وإلا فإن أمورا سيئة ستحدث”.
وتواترت تقارير إعلامية أمريكية عبر شبكتي “سي إن إن” و”سي بي إس نيوز”، الخميس، عن جاهزية الجيش الأمريكي لمهاجمة إيران بحلول نهاية الأسبوع الجاري، لكن ترامب لم يتخذ قرارا بعد.
يأتي ذلك في وقت عززت فيه الولايات المتحدة وجودها العسكري في المنطقة خلال الأسابيع الأخيرة، وأرسلت قطعا بحرية إضافية، رغم استمرار المفاوضات مع طهران، وسط تهديدات بشن هجوم على إيران.
وتطالب الولايات المتحدة إيران بوقف أنشطتها لتخصيب اليورانيوم بالكامل، ونقل اليورانيوم المخصب إلى خارج البلاد.
وتسعى واشنطن إلى طرح برنامج إيران الصاروخي ودعمها للجماعات المسلحة في المنطقة على طاولة المفاوضات، إلا أن طهران أكدت مرارا أنها لن تتفاوض بشأن أي قضايا غير برنامجها النووي.
فيما ترى طهران أن واشنطن وإسرائيل تختلقان ذرائع للتدخل وتغيير النظام فيها، وتتوعد بالرد على أي هجوم حتى لو كان محدودا، وتتمسك برفع العقوبات الاقتصادية الغربية المفروضة عليها مقابل تقييد برنامجها النووي.

The Times newspaper reported on Friday that Britain did not allow the United States to use both the Diego Garcia base in the Indian Ocean and the Royal Air Force base in Fairford to launch a possible attack on Iran.
It said in a report that Prime Minister Keir Starmer rejected US President Donald Trump’s request to use British bases to launch an attack on Iran, considering that such a measure would be in violation of international law.
The British newspaper explained that Trump made plans to use the base on Diego Garcia Island, which is used jointly with Britain, as well as the Fairford base, during the potential attack on Iran, but he criticized Britain after Starmer refused.
The report pointed out that Trump spoke in a blog post on the “Truth Social” platform on February 18, that the issue of transferring the Chagos Archipelago, which includes the island of Diego Garcia, to the state of Mauritius lies at the heart of the dispute.
On Wednesday, Trump said that if Iran decides not to conclude an agreement, Washington may be forced to use the military base in Diego Garcia and Fairford Airport in Britain to “repel a possible attack from a very dangerous regime.”
The two sides previously discussed the issue of the Diego Ga baseRussia, located in the Chagos Archipelago, which Britain plans to return to Mauritius, is used jointly with the United States.
The Republic of Mauritius is an island in the Indian Ocean, not connected by land borders with any other country, and its closest neighbors are Madagascar, the Comoros, the Seychelles, and the French Reunion Islands.
It is noteworthy that in 1965, Britain separated the island of Diego Garcia from the rest of the archipelago and presented it to the United States of America, which established a joint military base on it.
Britain deported about two thousand residents of the island to establish the base that Washington used in its military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.
In 2019, the United Nations General Assembly adopted, by an overwhelming majority, a resolution demanding that Britain end its administration of the Chagos Islands, in the Indian Ocean, and hand them over to Mauritius.
In May 2025, Mauritius and Britain signed an island transfer agreement, and the use of the Diego Garcia base was regulated by Britain with a 99-year lease.
Under the agreement, Britain was granted the right to extend the use of the base for an additional 40 years after the end of the 99-year period.
The agreement is still not implemented, as the procedures for ratifying it in parliament have not been completedThe two countries.
Trump criticized the agreement, commenting on it, saying: Our NATO ally, Britain, is planning without any justification to give the island of Diego Garcia – which is of vital importance to the United States – to Mauritius.
Trump described the move as “weak,” adding that China and Russia are monitoring this development.
He considered that “Britain’s abandonment of a very important land is a great folly, and another link in a long line of national security justifications for why it is necessary to acquire Greenland.”
On Thursday, Trump announced that the course of the process related to Iran would become clear within 10 days, adding: “A fruitful agreement must be reached with Iran, otherwise bad things will happen.”
On Thursday, American media reports circulated through CNN and CBS News about the readiness of the US military to attack Iran by the end of this week, but Trump has not yet taken a decision.
This comes at a time when the United States has strengthened its military presence in the region in recent weeks, and sent additional naval vessels, despite the continuation of negotiations with Tehran, amid threats to launch an attack on Iran.
The United States demands that Iran completely halt its uranium enrichment activitiesEnriched uranium out of the country.
Washington seeks to put Iran’s missile program and its support for armed groups in the region on the negotiating table, but Tehran has repeatedly stressed that it will not negotiate on any issues other than its nuclear program.
While Tehran believes that Washington and Israel are creating pretexts to intervene and change the regime there, it vows to respond to any attack, even if it is limited, and insists on lifting the Western economic sanctions imposed on it in exchange for restricting its nuclear program.
