انتقد حاكم ولاية كاليفورنيا غافين نيوسوم، إجراءات الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترامب القمعية تجاه الاحتجاجات الداعمة للمهاجرين غير النظاميين الموقوفين، وقال إن “الديمقراطية تتعرض لهجوم أمام أعيننا، حانت اللحظة التي نخشاها”.
وأضاف نيوسوم بتصريح لقناة أمريكية الأربعاء، أن الإجراءات العسكرية التي اتخذها ترامب ضد الاحتجاجات تشكل بداية لهجوم أوسع على المعايير السياسية والثقافية التي تدعم الديمقراطية.
واعتبر أن نشر الحرس الوطني ومشاة البحرية في الولاية لم يكن بهدف قمع الاحتجاجات، بل “حرب متعمدة لزعزعة المجتمع وتركيز السلطة في البيت الأبيض”.
وأردف: “قد تكون كاليفورنيا هي الأولى، لكن من الواضح أن الأمر لن يتوقف عند هذا الحد، هناك ولايات أخرى تلي ذلك، الديمقراطية هي الهدف التالي، الديمقراطية تتعرض للهجوم أمام أعيننا، حانت اللحظة التي نخشاها”.
وتابع نيوسوم: “أعلن ترامب الحرب على الثقافة والتاريخ والعلم والمعرفة”، معتبرا أن الرئيس الأمريكي شوه سمعة المؤسسات الإخبارية وهاجم المادة الأولى للدستور الذي يضمن حرية التعبير.
وفي سياق متصل رفض قاض أمريكي طلبا طارئا تقدم به حاكم ولاية كاليفورنيا لمنع استخدام القوات في قمع الاحتجاجات في لوس أنجلوس.
القاضي تشارلز بريير، كبير قضاة محكمة مقاطعة سان فرانسيسكو قال إن ترامب ووزارة الدفاع ووزير الدفاع بيت هيغسيث طلبوا وقتا لتقديم ردودهم على الطلب إلى المحكمة، مبينا أنه منحهم الوقت ورفض طلب نيوسوم العاجل.
ولليوم الرابع، تتواصل مظاهرات بمدينة لوس أنجلوس – أكبر مدن ولاية كاليفورنيا – دعما للمهاجرين غير النظاميين الموقوفين.
