أعلن الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترامب، السبت، أن الولايات المتحدة ستبدأ “قريبًا” تنفيذ عمليات برية لمكافحة المخدرات في منطقة الكاريبي، مشيرًا إلى أن تهريب المخدرات إلى الأراضي الأمريكية عبر البحر انخفض بنسبة 94 بالمئة نتيجة العمليات التي نفذتها القوات الأمريكية في بحر الكاريبي.
وجاءت تصريحات ترامب خلال كلمة ألقاها في حفل أقيم بمركز كينيدي التابع لوزارة الخارجية الأمريكية في العاصمة واشنطن، تناول فيها جهود بلاده في مكافحة المخدرات.
وأوضح ترامب أن الكمية التي يتم تهريبها عبر البحر تراجعت بشكل حاد، وقال: “المخدرات التي تدخل بلادنا بحرًا انخفضت بنسبة 94 بالمئة بعد العمليات التي أطلقناها في منطقة البحر الكاريبي. أحاول الآن معالجة مسألة الستة بالمئة المتبقية، لأن هؤلاء (المهربين) أشخاص شجعان للغاية في تقديري”.
وشدد ترامب على أن الولايات المتحدة ستطلق عمليات برية أيضًا، مضيفًا: “نعرف كل طريق، وكل منزل، وكل مكان يقيمون فيه. نحن نعرف كل شيء عنهم”.
من جانبه، قال وزير الحرب الأمريكي بيت هيغسيث، خلال فعالية في ولاية كاليفورنيا، إن بلاده تواصل استهداف سفن وقوارب تهريب المخدرات. وأكد أن واشنطن تركّز بشكل كبير على مكافحة تجارة المخدرات، موجّهًا تهديدًا واضحًا لتجارها بقوله: “إذا كنت تعمل لصالح منظمة إرهابية وتجلب المخدرات إلى بلادنا عبر السفن، فسوف نعثر عليك وندمرك، لا شك في ذلك”.
وأضاف هيغسيث أن الولايات المتحدة تكثف جهودها لملاحقة الكارتلات في النصف الغربي من الكرة الأرضية، مؤكدًا أن العمليات ضد سفن التهريب ستستمر حتى النهاية.
وتأتي عمليات الجيش الأمريكي ضد سفن تقول واشنطن إنها تهرّب المخدرات إلى الولايات المتحدة في إطار تنفيذ أمر تنفيذي أصدره الرئيس ترامب، يقضي باستخدام الجيش بشكل أكبر وأكثر فعالية في مكافحة عصابات المخدرات في أمريكا اللاتينية.
وفي هذا السياق، نشرت الولايات المتحدة قوة بحرية تضم غواصات وسفنًا حربية قرب السواحل الفنزويلية في أواخر أغسطس/آب الماضي، بينما صرّح هيغسيث بأن الجيش الأمريكي “مستعد للعمليات في فنزويلا، بما في ذلك تغيير النظام”.
وأثارت الهجمات التي نفذتها القوات العسكرية الأمريكية مؤخرًا على قوارب في البحر الكاريبي والمحيط الهادئ، بذريعة تهريب المخدرات واستهدافها المباشر للأشخاص على متنها، جدلًا واسعًا في المجتمع الدولي، وسط اتهامات لواشنطن بممارسة “القتل خارج نطاق القضاء”.

US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that the United States will soon commence land-based counter-narcotics operations in the Caribbean region, stating that maritime drug trafficking into US territory has decreased by 94% due to operations conducted by US forces in the Caribbean Sea.
Trump made these remarks during a speech at an event held at the Kennedy Center of the US Department of State in Washington, DC, where he discussed his country’s efforts in combating drugs.
Trump explained that the quantity of drugs smuggled by sea has sharply declined, saying, “Drugs entering our country by sea have decreased by 94% following the operations we launched in the Caribbean Sea region. I am now trying to address the remaining 6%, because these smugglers, in my estimation, are very brave individuals.”
Trump emphasized that the United States will also launch land operations, adding, “We know every route, every house, every place they reside. We know everything about them.”
For his part, US Secretary of War Pete Higgs stated during an event in California that his country continues to target drug-trafficking ships and boats. He confirmed that Washington is heavily focused on combating the drug trade, issuing a clear threat to traffickers by saying, “If you are working for a terrorist organization and bringing drugs into our country via ships, we will find you and destroy you, no doubt about it.”
Higgs added that the United States is intensifying its efforts to pursue cartels in the Western Hemisphere, affirming that operations against smuggling vessels will continue until the end.
The US military operations against vessels that Washington claims are smuggling drugs into the United States come as part of implementing an executive order issued by President Trump, which calls for a broader and more effective use of the military in combating drug cartels in Latin America.
In this context, the United States deployed a naval force including submarines and warships near Venezuelan coasts in late August last year, while Higgs stated that the US military is “prepared for operations in Venezuela, including regime change.”
The recent attacks carried by US military forces on boats in the Caribbean and Pacific, under the pretext of drug smuggling and directly targeting individuals on board, have sparked widespread controversy in the international community, amid accusations against Washington of engaging in “extrajudicial killing.”
