أعلن الرئيس الأميركي دونالد ترمب أمس الإثنين تصنيف مادة الفنتانيل المخدرة سلاح دمار شامل، معززاً حملة إدارته ضد كارتيلات تهريب المخدرات في أميركا اللاتينية.
وقال الرئيس الأميركي خلال توقيعه الأمر التنفيذي في البيت الأبيض “نصنف رسمياً (الفنتانيل) سلاح دمار شامل”، مضيفاً “ليس هناك قنبلة تفعل ما تفعله هذه القنبلة، بحسب معلوماتنا أن 200 الى 300 ألف شخص يموتون كل عام” بسبب هذه المادة المخدرة.
وجاء في الأمر التنفيذي أن “(الفنتانيل) أقرب إلى سلاح كيماوي منها إلى مخدر”، وأن تصنيعها وتوزيعها “يهددان أمننا القومي ويؤججان الفوضى” في منطقتنا وعلى حدودنا.
ويعتبر محللون أن الخطوة على صلة بحرب تشنها إدارة ترمب ضد ما يسمى “إرهابيي المخدرات”، بما في ذلك حملة عسكرية تستهدف بضربات زوارق تقول واشنطن إنها تستخدم لتهريب المخدرات.
وأسفرت تلك الحملة عن مقتل نحو 90 شخصاً منذ مطلع سبتمبر (أيلول) الماضي.
لكن في حين يقول ترمب إن كل زورق يتم تدميره، وقد تجاوز عددها 20، ينقذ أرواح 25 ألف أميركي، يُعتقد أن هذه المراكب تنقل الكوكايين لا “الفنتانيل” الأكثر فتكاً، والذي يهرب أساساً إلى الولايات المتحدة من المكسيك لا بحراً من كولومبيا أو فنزويلا.
بموازاة الضربات تحشد الولايات المتحدة قواتها في البحر الكاريبي، حيث نشرت أكبر حاملة طائرات في العالم وعدداً من السفن الحربية، وحلقت طائرات عسكرية أميركية فوق الساحل الفنزويلي في الأسابيع الأخيرة.
ويقول ترمب إن الانتشار العسكري يرمي إلى مكافحة المخدرات، متهماً الرئيس الفنزويلي نيكولاس مادورو بتزعم كارتيل للتهريب.
وتنفي كراكاس ذلك وتتهم واشنطن بالسعي إلى تغيير النظام في فنزويلا والسيطرة على احتياطاتها النفطية.
ورصدت الولايات المتحدة مكافأة 50 مليون دولار لمن يساعد في القبض على مادورو، الوريث السياسي للزعيم اليساري الراحل هوغو تشافيز.

US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he is classifying the drug fentanyl as a weapon of mass destruction, bolstering his administration’s campaign against drug trafficking cartels in Latin America.
During the signing of the executive order at the White House, the American President said, “We are officially classifying (fentanyl) as a weapon of mass destruction,” adding, “There’s no bomb that does what this bomb does. According to our information, 200 to 300,000 people die every year” because of this drug.
The executive order stated that “(fentanyl) is closer to a chemical weapon than a drug,” and that its manufacture and distribution “threaten our national security and fuel chaos” in our region and on our borders.
Analysts believe the move is linked to a war the Trump administration is waging against so-called “narco-terrorists,” including a military campaign targeting speedboats that Washington says are used to smuggle drugs.
That campaign has resulted in the deaths of approximately 90 people since the beginning of September last year.
However, while Trump says every boat destroyed—over 20 so far—saves 25,000 American lives, it is believed these vessels carry cocaine, not the more lethal fentanyl, which is primarily smuggled into the United States from Mexico, not by sea from Colombia or Venezuela.
Alongside the strikes, the United States is mobilizing its forces in the Caribbean, where it has deployed the world’s largest aircraft carrier and a number of warships. American military aircraft have also flown over the Venezuelan coast in recent weeks.
Trump says the military deployment aims to combat drugs, accusing Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro of leading a smuggling cartel.
Caracas denies this and accuses Washington of seeking to change the regime in Venezuela and control its oil reserves.
The United States has posted a $50 million reward for information leading to the capture of Maduro, the political heir of the late leftist leader Hugo Chávez.
