أقامت أستراليا اليوم الأربعاء أول جنازة لضحايا حادث إطلاق النار الجماعي في شاطئ بونداي حيث تجمعت حشود كبيرة لتأبين حاخام قُتل في الهجوم.
وقتل ساجد أكرم وابنه نافيد 15 شخصاً عندما أطلقا النار على جمع من المحتفلين بعيد “حانوكا” اليهودي على الشاطئ الشهير مساء الأحد.
كان بين القتلى فتاة تبلغ 10 سنوات وناجيان من المحرقة وزوجان أصيبا بالرصاص لدى محاولتهما وقف الهجوم، فيما نقل أكثر من 40 شخصاً إلى المستشفى.
كان إيلي شلانغر، وهو أب لخمسة ومعروف باسم “حاخام بونداي”، أول شخص يتم تأبينه بإقامة مراسم في كنيس حباد بونداي. وخدم شلانغر في السجون والمستشفيات، وفقاً لحركة “حباد” التي تمثل فرعاً من اليهود الحسيديين والتي كانت وراء تنظيم فعالية الأحد.
وقال أليكس ريفشين، زعيم الجالية اليهودية، قبل الجنازة “كل من عرفه كان يعلم أنه كان الأفضل بيننا”. وسيقيم كنيس “حباد” بونداي جنازة أخرى للحاخام يعقوب ليفيتان البالغ 39 سنة بعد ظهر اليوم. وقالت حركة “حباد” إن ليفيتان كان أباً لأربعة، وكان يعرف بأعماله الخيرية.
من جهته، قال رئيس الوزراء أنتوني ألبانيزي الأربعاء “قلبي مع المجتمع اليوم وكل يوم”. وأضاف في تصريح لمحطة إذاعية محلية “لكن اليوم سيكون يوماً صعباً بشكل خاص مع بدء أولى الجنازات”.
وقالت السلطات إن الهجوم كان يهدف إلى بث الذعر بين اليهود في البلاد. وقال ألبانيزي إن المسلحَين، وهما رجل وابنه، كانا مدفوعين بـ”أيديولوجية الكراهية”.
وأشار الثلاثاء إلى أن الجريمة كانت مدفوعة “بأيديولوجية تنظيم داعش… الأيديولوجية التي كانت سائدة لأكثر من عقد وأدت إلى أيديولوجية الكراهية هذه”.
وقال ألبانيزي إن نافيد أكرم وهو عامل بناء عاطل عن العمل يبلغ 24 سنة لفت انتباه وكالة الاستخبارات الأسترالية عام 2019 “بسبب صلته بآخرين” لكن لم يُعتبر تهديداً وشيكاً وقتها.
وأضاف “لقد حققوا معه، وحققوا مع أفراد أسرته، وحققوا مع أشخاص محيطين به … لكنه لم يُعتبر في ذلك الوقت شخصاً مثيراً للاهتمام”.

Australia held the first funeral on Wednesday for victims of the mass shooting at Bondi Beach, where large crowds gathered to mourn a rabbi killed in the attack.
Sajid Akram and his son Naveed killed 15 people when they opened fire on a crowd celebrating the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah at the famous beach on Sunday evening.
Among the dead were a 10-year-old girl, two Holocaust survivors, and a couple who were shot while trying to stop the attack. More than 40 people were taken to hospital.
Elie Schlanger, a father of five known as the “Bondi Rabbi,” was the first person to be mourned with a service at the Bondi Chabad synagogue. Schlanger served in prisons and hospitals, according to the Chabad movement, which represents a branch of Hasidic Jews and was behind organizing Sunday’s event.
“We’re shaken to the core,” said Alex Ryvchin, co-CEO of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry, before the funeral. “Every person who knew him knew he was the best among us.” The Bondi Chabad synagogue will hold another funeral this afternoon for 39-year-old Rabbi Yaakov Loevin. The Chabad movement said Loevin was a father of four and was known for his charitable works.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Wednesday, “My heart is with the community today and every day.” He added in a statement to a local radio station, “But today will be particularly difficult as the first funerals begin.”
Authorities said the attack was aimed at spreading fear among Jews in the country. Albanese said the gunmen, a man and his son, were driven by an “ideology of hate.”
He noted on Tuesday that the crime was driven by “ISIS-inspired ideology… an ideology that has been prevalent for more than a decade and has led to this ideology of hate.”
Albanese said Naveed Akram, a 24-year-old unemployed construction worker, came to the attention of the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation in 2019 “due to his connections with others” but was not considered an imminent threat at the time.
“They investigated him, they investigated his family members, they investigated people around him… but he was not considered a person of interest at that time,” he added.
