قالت المتحدثة باسم البيت الأبيض كارولين ليفيت إن الرئيس الأميركي دونالد ترامب يفضّل في المقام الأول الخيار الدبلوماسي في التعامل مع إيران، لكنه في الوقت نفسه يُبقي استخدام القوة العسكرية مطروحا دائما على الطاولة.
جاء ذلك في ردها على أسئلة الصحفيين، الاثنين، حول العديد من القضايا الراهنة.
وأشارت ليفيت إلى أن الإدارة الأميركية تتابع عن كثب الاحتجاجات الجارية في إيران، مؤكدة أن الرئيس ترامب يُبقي جميع الخيارات متاحة في هذا الشأن.
وشددت على أن ترامب لا يخشى تنفيذ تهديده باستخدام القوة العسكرية ضد أهداف إيرانية إذا تعرّض المتظاهرون لهجمات من قبل قوات الأمن، لكنها أوضحت أن خياره المفضل يظل مواصلة المسار الدبلوماسي مع طهران.
وقالت ليفيت: “من الأمور التي يجيدها الرئيس ترامب جيدا أنه يُبقي دائما جميع خياراته على الطاولة، فالضربات الجوية تُعد أحد الخيارات المطروحة أمام القائد الأعلى للقوات المسلحة، غير أن الدبلوماسية تبقى دائما الخيار الأول للرئيس”.
وأضافت أن واشنطن تجري محادثات مع الحكومة الإيرانية، موضحة أن “التصريحات العلنية التي يدلي بها النظام الإيراني تختلف عن الرسائل التي يتلقاها على نحو خاص”.
وأشارت ليفيت إلى أن ترامب أظهر أنه “لا يتردد في اللجوء إلى الخيارات العسكرية إذا رأى ذلك ضروريا”.
وفي 28 ديسمبر/ كانون الأول الماضي، بدأ التجار في السوق الكبير بالعاصمة طهران احتجاجات على التراجع الحاد بقيمة الريال الإيراني أمام العملات الأجنبية وتفاقم المشكلات الاقتصادية، وتمددت الاحتجاجات لاحقا إلى العديد من المدن.
وأقر الرئيس الإيراني مسعود بزشكيان، بحالة الاستياء الشعبي، مؤكدا أن الحكومة مسؤولة عن المشاكل الاقتصادية الراهنة، وحث المسؤولين على عدم إلقاء اللوم على جهات خارجية مثل الولايات المتحدة.
ولم تصدر السلطات الإيرانية بيانات رسمية بشأن عدد القتلى أو الجرحى، غير أن وكالة أنباء نشطاء حقوق الإنسان في إيران هرانا أفادت في تقرير نشرته في 11 يناير/ كانون الثاني الجاري بمقتل 544 شخصا، بينهم 37 عنصر أمن ومدعٍ عام و8 أطفال، إضافة إلى توقيف 10 آلاف و681 شخصا.

White House Spokesperson Caroline Levitt stated that U.S. President Donald Trump primarily prefers the diplomatic option in dealing with Iran, but at the same time, he always keeps the use of military force on the table.
This came in her response to journalists’ questions on Monday regarding several current issues.
Levitt pointed out that the U.S. administration is closely monitoring the ongoing protests in Iran, affirming that President Trump “keeps all options available” in this regard.
She stressed that Trump “does not fear” carrying out his threat to use military force against Iranian targets if protesters are attacked by security forces, but she clarified that his preferred option remains continuing the diplomatic path with Tehran.
Levitt said: “One of the things President Trump is very good at is that he always keeps all his options on the table. Airstrikes are one of the options available to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, but diplomacy always remains the President’s first choice.”
She added that Washington is conducting talks with the Iranian government, explaining that “the public statements issued by the Iranian regime differ from the messages it receives privately.”
Levitt noted that Trump has shown he “does not hesitate to resort to military options if he deems it necessary.”
On December 28th of last year, merchants in the Grand Bazaar of the capital Tehran began protests against the sharp decline in the value of the Iranian rial against foreign currencies and the worsening economic problems. The protests later spread to many cities.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian acknowledged the state of public discontent, confirming that the government is responsible for the current economic problems, and urged officials not to blame external parties like the United States.
Iranian authorities have not issued official statements regarding the number of killed or wounded. However, the activist-run “Hrana” news agency reported in a report published on January 11th that 544 people have been killed, including 37 security personnel, a prosecutor, and 8 children, in addition to the arrest of 10,681 people.
