قال نائب رئيس مجلس الأمن الروسي دميتري ميدفيديف إن سكان جزيرة غرينلاند قد يصوتون للانضمام إلى روسيا إذا لم يتحرك الرئيس الأميركي دونالد ترمب على وجه السرعة لضم الجزيرة الواقعة في القطب الشمالي، وفق ما ذكرت وكالة إنترفاكس للأنباء أمس الإثنين.
ونقلت الوكة عن ميدفيديف، الرئيس الروسي السابق، قوله ينبغي لترمب أن يسرع. وفقاً لمعلومات لم يتم التحقق منها، قد يجري خلال أيام قليلة استفتاء مفاجئ، يمكن أن يصوت فيه جميع سكان غرينلاند البالغ عددهم 55 ألف نسمة على الانضمام إلى روسيا… وبعد ذلك ينتهي الأمر. لا نجوم صغيرة جديدة على العلم (الأميركي)”.
وكان ترمب قد جدد مسعاه لسيطرة الولايات المتحدة على غرينلاند، وهي منطقة دنماركية تتمتع بالحكم الذاتي، قائلاً إن واشنطن بحاجة إلى امتلاكها لردع روسيا.
وقال الرئيس الأميركي إن موقع غرينلاند ومواردها يجعلها حيوية للأمن القومي، مما أثار اعتراضات شديدة من الدنمارك وغرينلاند.
ولم تطالب روسيا بغرينلاند، إلا أنها تراقب منذ فترة الدور الاستراتيجي لها في أمن القطب الشمالي، نظراً لموقعها على طرق شمال الأطلسي ووجود منشأة عسكرية أميركية رئيسية للمراقبة العسكرية والفضائية هناك.
ولم يعلق الكرملين على مسعى ترمب، لكنه وصف القطب الشمالي بأنه منطقة مصالح روسيا القومية والاستراتيجية، وقال العام الماضي إنه يراقب عن كثب النقاش “الدراماتيكي إلى حد ما” حول غرينلاند.

Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said residents of Greenland might vote to join
Russia if U.S. President Donald Trump does not act quickly to annex the Arctic island, according to the Interfax news agency on Monday.
The agency quoted Medvedev, the former Russian president, as saying, “Trump should hurry up. According to unverified information, a surprise referendum could be held within a few days, in which all 55,000 residents of Greenland could vote to join Russia… And then it’s over. No new little stars on the (American) flag.”
Trump had renewed his bid for U.S. control over Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory, saying Washington needs to possess it to deter Russia.
The U.S. president said Greenland’s location and resources make it vital to national security, sparking strong objections from Denmark and Greenland.
Russia has not laid claim to Greenland, but it has long monitored its strategic role in Arctic security, given its position on North Atlantic routes and the presence of a major U.S. military installation there for military and space surveillance.
The Kremlin has not commented on Trump’s bid but has described the Arctic as an area of Russia’s national and strategic interests, saying last year that it is closely following the “rather dramatic” debate about Greenland.
