قالت لجنة في الكونغرس الأميركي اليوم الثلاثاء، إنها أصدرت مذكرة استدعاء إلى وزيرة العدل بام بوندي للإدلاء بشهادتها في جلسة مغلقة ضمن تحقيق يتعلق برجل الأعمال الأميركي الراحل جيفري إبستين المدان بارتكاب جرائم جنسية.
وبموجب المذكرة، ستدلي بوندي بإفادة تحت القسم أمام لجنة الرقابة في مجلس النواب في 14 أبريل (نيسان).
ولم ترد وزارة العدل حتى الآن على طلب وكالة رويترز التعليق.
وتواجه بوندي اتهامات بأن وزارة العدل أخفت أسماء شخصيات نافذة مرتبطة بإبستين عند نشرها ملايين الوثائق المتعلقة بالممول الراحل، الذي ارتبط بعلاقات وثيقة مع قادة سياسيين ورجال أعمال قبل وبعد إدانته عام 2008 في قضية استدراج قاصر للدعارة.
وأُلقي القبض على إبستين مرة أخرى في 2019 وتوفي في السجن أثناء مواجهته اتهامات اتحادية تتعلق بالاتجار الجنسي. وقد خلص التحقيق إلى أن وفاته كانت انتحاراً.
ومن المقرر أن تقدم بوندي ونائبها تود بلانش إحاطة خاصة منفصلة أمام اللجنة غداً الأربعاء.
واشتكى مشرعون من أن عمليات حجب الملفات وتنقيحها من جانب وزارة العدل تتجاوز على ما يبدو الاستثناءات المحدودة التي يسمح بها قانون أقره الكونغرس في نوفمبر (تشرين الثاني) بأغلبية شبه جماعية.
وأحجمت الوزارة عن نشر عدد كبير من الوثائق، مبررة ذلك بوجود امتيازات قانونية.
وقالت بوندي، إن أكثر من 500 محام في وزارة العدل عملوا ضمن جدول زمني مضغوط لمراجعة كميات كبيرة من المواد والوثائق.
وظلت ملفات إبستين تلاحق بوندي طوال فترة توليها منصب وزيرة العدل في إدارة ترمب. وكان بعض أنصار الرئيس اتهموها العام الماضي بـالتستر، بعدما قالت وزارة العدل إنها لن تنشر في البداية مواد تتعلق بتحقيقاتها في شأن إبستين، مما أعاد تسليط الضوء على علاقة الصداقة السابقة بين ترمب وإبستين.
ويقول ترمب إنه قطع علاقته بإبستين قبل أعوام من إدانته عام 2008، وكرر مراراً أنه لم ير أي دليل على الاتجار الجنسي.
ولم توجه سلطات إنفاذ القانون إلى ترمب أية اتهامات جنائية تتعلق بإبستين.

A US Congressional committee said on Tuesday that it had issued a subpoena to Attorney General Pam Bondi to testify in a closed session as part of an investigation into the late American businessman Jeffrey Epstein, who was convicted of sexual crimes.
Under the memo, Bondi will give a sworn statement to the House Oversight Committee on April 14.
The Ministry of Justice has not yet responded to Reuters’ request for comment.
Bondi is facing accusations that the Justice Department concealed the names of influential figures linked to Epstein when it published millions of documents related to the late financier, who had close relationships with political and business leaders before and after his conviction in 2008 in a case of luring a minor into prostitution.
Epstein was arrested again in 2019 and died in prison while facing federal sex trafficking charges. The investigation concluded that his death was suicide.
Bondi and her deputy, Todd Blanche, are scheduled to give a separate special briefing to the committee tomorrow, Wednesday.
Lawmakers complained that the processes of withholding and redacting files by the Ministry of Justice appeared to exceed the limited exceptions allowed by a law passed by the Ministry of Justice.Congress in November with an almost unanimous majority.
The Ministry refrained from publishing a large number of documents, justifying this by the existence of legal privileges.
Bondi said that more than 500 lawyers at the Department of Justice worked within a compressed schedule to review large amounts of materials and documents.
The Epstein files continued to haunt Bondi throughout her tenure as Attorney General in the Trump administration. Last year, some of the president’s supporters accused her of a cover-up, after the Justice Department said it would not initially publish materials related to its investigation into Epstein, which re-shed light on the previous friendship between Trump and Epstein.
Trump says he broke off his relationship with Epstein years before his conviction in 2008, and has repeatedly said that he saw no evidence of sex trafficking.
Law enforcement authorities have not brought any criminal charges against Trump related to Epstein.
